*We are looking to cast both deaf and hearing performers.*
Deaf performers who are submitting videos should audition using ASL to present a three-minute, dramatic monologue or selection from a book.
ASL video submissions will be viewed with an ASL interpreter.

Do not sign up for an audition slot as we will be scheduling auditions with an interpreter at another time.
[WENDLA] – DEAF PERFORMER; Innocent. With every passing day, she grows more curious about the world around her and her changing body. Both vulnerable and a willing participant in her evolution. Explores her newly found sexuality with Melchior. Age 15-20.

[MELCHIOR] – Range B4-G2; A smart, headstrong boy who refuses to bow down to society's rules. An atheist and radical student. Struggles with his intense feelings for Wendla and his awakening sexual urges. Age 15-20. PLAYING ELECTRIC BASS A PLUS BUT NOT REQUIRED.
[MARTHA] – DEAF PERFORMER; A schoolgirl who faces constant physical abuse from her father. She harbors a secret crush towards Moritz. Age 15-20.
[MORITZ] – DEAF PERFORMER; Melchior’s best friend, a troubled student. He desperately tries to please his father, but always seems to disappoint him. His haunting sexual dreams and academic failures eventually drive him to suicidal thoughts. Age 15-20.
[MORITZ] – VOICE PERFORMER, Range A4-C3; Melchior's best friend, a troubled student. He desperately tries to please his father, but always seems to disappoint him. [THEA] – Range: E5-E3; Wendla's best friend. A schoolgirl who tries to stay innocent and pure. Age 15-20. PLAYING AN INSTRUMENT IS A PLUS.
[HANSCHEN] – Range: D5-Ab2; A rather narcissistic schoolmate of Melchior's. He is comfortable with his own sexuality and uses his looks and intelligence to captivate Ernst. Optional Doubling as RUPERT. Age 15-20. SHOULD PLAY PIANO WITH PROFICIENCY.
[ANNA] – Range: C5-E3; A German schoolgirl and Martha's best friend. Optimistic and a bit naive, she has a difficult time understanding Martha's trials. Age 15-20. PLAYING AN INSTRUMENT IS A PLUS BUT NOT REQUIRED.
[ERNST] – DEAF PERFORMER; A schoolmate of Melchior's. Naive and easily manipulated, which allows him to fall in love with Hanschen. Optional Doubling as REINHOLD. Age 15-20.
[ERNST] – VOICE PERFORMER, Range: A4-Ab2; A schoolmate of Melchior's. Naive and easily manipulated, which allows him to fall in love with Hanschen. Optional Doubling as REINHOLD. Age 15-20. PLAYING DRUMS A PLUS.
[ILSE] – Range E5-E3; Martha's sister, who was also abused and has run away from home to live in an artists' colony. She reaches out to her old friend Moritz in the last moments of his life. Age 15-20. PLAYING VIOLIN A PLUS.
[GEORG] – Range D5-Ab2; A clumsy schoolmate of Melchoir's. He is overcome with his feelings for his piano teacher. Optional Doubling as DIETER. Age 15-20.
[OTTO] – Range: D5-Ab2; A classmate of Melchior's. He struggles with feelings he considers inappropriate. Optional Doubling as ULBRECHT. Age 15-20.
[ADULT WOMAN] – DEAF PERFORMER; Plays a variety of rigid adult roles. Characters include FRAU BERGMAN, Wendla's mother; FRAULEIN KNUPPELDICK; FRAULEIN GROSSEBUSTENHALTER; FRAU GABOR, Melchior's mother; and FRAU BESSELL, Martha's mother. Age 40-50.
[ADULT WOMAN] – VOICE PERFORMER, Range: A4-D3; Plays a variety of rigid adult roles. Characters include FRAU BERGMAN, Wendla's mother; FRAULEIN KNUPPELDICK; FRAULEIN GROSSEBUSTENHALTER; FRAU GABOR, Melchior's mother; and FRAU BESSELL, Martha's mother. Age 40-50.
[ADULT MAN] – Range: F4-D3; Plays a variety of rigid adult roles. Characters include HERR SONNENSTITCH, the boys' teacher; HEADMASTER KNOCHENBRUCH; HERR NEUMANN, Ilse's father; HERR RILOW, Hanschen's father; HERR STEIFEL, Moritz's father; FATHER KAULBACH; DOCTOR VON BRAUSEPULVER; HERR GABOR, Melchior's father; and SCHMIDT. Age 40-50.
[ENSEMBLE] – Two deaf performers, two hearing performers. These performers will play additional students. The hearing actors will voice some of the deaf performers and should play instruments with proficiency.
FOR IN-PERSON AUDITIONS:
Please prepare two contrasting songs of your choice, 1-2 minutes each in the style of the show/s you are auditioning for. If you are interested in being considered for more than one show, choose material that shows off your range. In-person audition slots will be 10 minutes each. Note: Those interested in playing an instrument should prepare a 1-2 minute demonstration of you playing your instrument(s) in addition to the songs requested above, which can be shared when filling out your form, found below:

Please make a video (using landscape mode, if using a phone or tablet) of two contrasting songs of your choice, 1-2 minutes each in the style of the show/s you are auditioning for. Those interested in playing an instrument should prepare a 1-2 minute demonstration of you playing your instrument(s) in addition to the songs requested above.
Deaf performers should audition using ASL to present a one-minute monologue or selection from a book. We will view those auditions with a sign language interpreter.
We ask that you use your name as the title of the video – do not use “Skylight” or “Skylight Music Theatre” in the video title.
